Seeking Insights and User Experiences: Pelican Boat Performance and Modifications
I am interested in expanding knowledge regarding Pelican-branded boats, specifically their small utility and fishing models constructed from RAM-X material. While the manufacturer promotes durability and ease of maintenance, user reports on performance, long-term reliability, and potential modifications seem scattered and anecdotal.
If you have experience with Pelican boats-either as a standalone utility vessel, a car-topper, or a tender-please share observations regarding hull rigidity, stability under load, and tracking under various weather and water conditions. Additionally, information on successful upgrades (floor stiffening, seating, mounting outboards or trolling motors, storage customizations) would be greatly appreciated.
Are there known limitations to the polyethylene construction with regard to UV degradation or stress cracking, and if so, have countermeasures (e.g., after-market UV treatments, reinforcements) proven effective? Finally, how do these boats compare with similar options (e.g., aluminum utility boats or other major brands) in terms of maintenance and value retention?
Looking forward to data-driven input based on hands-on use and/or technical assessment.
