I just stumbled upon something interesting and hoped to get your thoughts on it. So, I recently heard about Turning Point Propellers and their unique design, and I’m curious about how they’re perceived in the boating community, especially in relation to the hull truth.

From what I gather, Turning Point Propellers use some innovative venting technology to boost acceleration and improve fuel efficiency. I think they even claim to solve some common cavitation issues with their design. Has anyone here tried these out? What has been your experience with them in terms of performance, handling, and overall impact on your boat’s performance, especially when it comes to speeding up, towing, or just cruising?

I’m particularly interested in hearing how these props might play a role in optimizing the boat’s hull performance and truth, especially when compared to traditional or other aftermarket propellers. Any specific situations or boat types where you’ve seen noticeable differences?

Turning Point Propellers… Sounds like someone’s trying to make a splash in the innovation pool! They do seem to have a loyal following for that venting technology. Most folks I’ve talked to say they notice a bit of a snappy acceleration and better fuel efficiency, which is fantastic unless you’re planning on making friends at the gas pump. As for cavitation, they seem to hold their ground pretty well, but I guess the prop that never cavitates hasn’t been invented yet. It’s not a bad idea to test them out if you’re into optimizing your hull performance. Who knows, could be the game-changer you’re looking for-or at least a modest improvement that makes your wallet sigh a little less loudly!

Couple of nuggets I learned playing with Turning Point props: the vent slots really do help hole shot, but on light boats or high-mounted engines they can feel “slippy” in tight turns. Easy fixes are going 4‑blade, dropping the engine a hole, or bumping pitch one inch. For towing or heavier hulls, their 4‑blades hold plane at lower speeds and add grip/stern lift-expect a small top‑end hit compared to a same‑pitch 3‑blade. When propping, aim to hit your engine’s WOT range with your normal load; each inch of pitch changes WOT about 150-200 rpm, and a 4‑blade of the same pitch typically costs another 50-150 rpm. Stainless Express stays hooked up better under load than the aluminum Hustler (less flex), which helps with “cavitation” complaints that are really ventilation. Keep a spare MasterGuard hub and log GPS speed, time to plane, and WOT rpm so you can see if the venting is actually helping-on my setup it shaved the hole shot noticeably and let me hold plane a couple mph slower. If pure top end is the goal, something like a Merc Enertia may outrun it, but for value and all‑around usability TP has been a solid win.
