bug report: outboard hates humidity more than i do
took the yamaha 150 out last weekend, humid as balls in the keys. symptoms: cranks fine, no spark on any cylinder. checked plugs (new ngks), fuel line/filter (fresh ethanol-free), kill switch/lanyard (good), battery voltage (13.2v). even pulled the stator-resistance spot on per service manual.
marina dude said “coils prolly toast, $800 job.” forums screamed tps sensor or ecu.
nah. pulled the cowling off fully and found water in the goddamn ignition coils. humidity wicked thru micro-cracks in the boots. dried em with compressed air + dielectric grease, sealed with silicone-fired right up.
tip: if it’s muggy af, yank cowling quarterly and inspect boots/coils before blaming fancy electronics. saved my ass (and wallet). boats: 1% skill, 99% babysitting. 😂
