So here’s the deal: I’ve been eyeing these so-called mushroom anchors—yes, the ones that look like a fungus thinking it’s an anchor—and I’m wondering if anyone else has taken the plunge (or should I say, the spore) into the world of unconventional boat anchoring? Apparently, they’re supposed to provide a more natural “grip” under the sea, but then again, I’ve seen my boat get more of a hug from a standard anchor on a breezy day.
Has anyone actually used a mushroom anchor and found it more reliable than the good old plate anchor, or is it just another gimmick to add to the collection of items that promise the moon and deliver a soggy potato? I’m really torn between giving my boat a funky style statement and risking a mid-storm drift that makes me the laughing stock of the marina.
Looking forward to your tales of underwater fungal misadventures—or success stories if the mushrooms turn out to be more than just a pretty face (or cap)!
